Google NIK & Lightroom Question.

Hope I can explain this clearly enough...

I've downloaded the Google NIK Collection with the intention of using the Silver Efex module to adjust B&W photos from Lightroom. Can't seem to get it to work. Not smart enough to figure out why.

When in Lightroom if I select a photo and right click on it I can then select the option to " Edit in Silver Efex Pro2.exe ..." from a drop down box. When I select that option a box opens with three options. The default option is to " Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments " In that box I then click the 'Edit' button. Then a slider opens in the upper left corner of Lightroom that says " Preparing file for edit " . Then the slider closes and then ... NOTHING ! NIK does not open, the Silver Efex doesn't open. Nothing. I'm simply looking at the photo in Lightroom.

I've tried deleting the NIK package and reloading it a few times but I simply can't seem to get the photo to transfer to Silver Efex. I'm Stumped !

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Contact support for your Nik Silver Efex 2 software. They can talk/chat you through it.

It will be a separate window not directly in Lightroom

Yes, I've watched a number of Youtube videos about using the software and for everyone else ( other than me it seems ) a seperate window opens. But not for me !

I've tried to find a number to contact them, but I can't seem to find one. I thought that possibly since Google no longer supports the software they've hidden the phone number from me. I'll go spend more time looking.

Thanks

Try the upper menu Instead of right click on the photo
Photo
Edit in
Nik program

Yep, I've tried that too. Same thing....same options and the same results.

Do the other NIK components like Color Efex work OK?

Therefore it would seem that the Silver Efex must be somehow corrupt (?) . I've downloaded the NIX suite about three times now trying to get it to work. I suppose that it's quite possible that I've somehow screwed things up by doing that. I'll go start from scratch again....remove NIK completely and try again.

Thank you

Why is it I never have these problems with Photoshop? Nik, Topaz, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 10, what ever, everything works fine with Photoshop CS6. There is something mysterious about Lightroom.

More to the point is ... Why do I almost ALWAYS have problems with stuff like this ? I suspect it's a logic thing. The logic that I seem to follow just never seems to be the same logic that my computer follows.

Got it !

It seems that I somehow managed to install NIK once and parts of NIK a second time. Lightroom must not have liked that. I've uninstalled the entire NIK suite and reinstalled it ( for about the 4th time ) and it now works just dandy.

Thanks everyone for your advice and help.

You are right. I don't think Google has any support for Nik. As it crumbles it will be a so what for Google. They offered it at no charge.

I would uninstall and reinstall. Just for the hell of it I went from LR to Silver Efex and experienced no problems.
