Adjusting Quality of Photos for E-mailing

I shoot jpg fine and RAW (NEF on D 500). I have a problem sending pics by E-mail because of the resolution and mpx. Both gmail and yahoo have limitations and in general I can only send on pic at a time, which is quite a headache if I want to send several pics. I know there are (maybe several) ways to reduce quality for e-mailing and I need assistance on how to do that. BTW, I save to my computer through the windows default program. Thanks in advance.

I use either Picasa or the photo editing software that came with the camera. I highlight the whole group I want reduced, then "Export". An alternative if high resolution is needed is Dropbox.

What software do you have? What have you tried?

Use the standard for HQ images on Facebook - 2048 on the longest side. The image will look great and more than fill a 1920x1280 HD screen, and if you set the quality to 75, it will have decent image quality. The resulting image size will be around 1mb.

I use Lightroom because it permits me to use the length in pixels on a side, AND I can specify the quality.

You can use Faststone Image Viewer, IrfanView or other free software to get a similar result.

I labored with this for a while until I gave up trying to send images in email. Even if your mail system allows it, there's a good chance the recipient's won't. For free, open a DropBox account, set your images out there, get a link to them and mail the link. Works great! Then, size/dimensions of the image become a moot point. After they've been shared for a period of time, you can delete them and make room for more images to share.

No software came with the D500. I still have "View NX 2" Nikon software installed on my computer that was with my D80 several years ago. I do not wish to use facebook for security and privacy issues.

Gene gave the exact information needed for the intended result, specifically: 2048 pixels on the long side at 75% "quality" to easily email an attachment or several images. And then a series of responses that amount to: ohhh too hard ... Too hard for who, you or your recipient? Both?

Do your friends and family so look forward to your images they want the 20MB unprocessed files that they'll want to use another download service rather than receiving directly into their email?

And then jimpitt, you reference "security" of Facebook. What? Instead, you'll allow your full-sized images to be downloaded outside your control and off onto whatever uses a full-sized image may allow ... ??

You might try "FastStone Photo Resizer". It's freeware. It can batch process files. Resize to your specs ... I use it for email since I can only send ONE pic at a time at full res JPG thru many ISP's. I think someone on this forum mentioned it. I used to use other software but it wouldn't run on Windows 10.

I installed the Image Resizer. It becomes part of the right click menu in Windows Explorer.
(I use it a lot and really like it!)

Never got around to cracking open the D500 owner's manual???

On page "V" it tells you where to download 2 Nikon software programs. NX-i and NX-d.

I didn't suggest that you use Facebook. All I said was that it had a standard resolution for HQ images and that resolution (and smaller file sizes) was sufficient for your needs you should use it. As a courtesy/example, I posted two images I worked on so you could see what 2048 px on the long side looks like.
