As you all know, I just purchased the canon 5D Mark IV. Questioning my decision. Should I have gone with the Nikon D850? This post isn't meant to be Canon vs Nikon but rather just for information by comparison on the two cameras. I still can return the Mark IV and get the D850 when they are available again. I have made the comparison on B&H and am still undecided. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Thanks. Vince.
Thanks Jerry. Always appreciate your input and Links.

hi Vince,
it all depends on what you want to use it for and the system available for it. i'd think long and hard about your usage and needs before making any further decision. try out what you have, never mind the reviews, they are worthless. what matters is your happiness with the results. that's the test you will put it to.
good luck.

Of course you will have the cost of glass. Interesting post. Not going to be cheap if you switch. But we alll know this.

I think you should trade the Canon in for the D850. The 5dm4 is very good camera and the D850 is even better. That is my opinion. And without a doubt you have more resolution and better dynamic range in the D850. The rest of the comparison is probably closer or depends on personal preferences.

Vince, you made your decision, you laid down your money. Be happy. You don't need to second guess your self or seek reinforcement for your decisions. Take a drive to LBI take some wonderful pictures. I don't know if you are familiar with Bryan Peterson or not. He is a well-respected author, photographer and has quite a few tutorials on everything related to photography. I am reading his Understanding Exposure, Fourth Edition. On the cover, he states"How to Shoot Great Photographs with Any Camera" Not to worry. Enjoy your decision. Go to LBI have a beer and some clams.
You're looking back after getting the Canon. I say, since there's still time, get the Nikon and you won't look back...
I'd say it depends a lot on what lenses you have and your skill level. The 5D IV is an excellent camera, I have one. The D850 is the latest in camera technology, the closest I have in a Nikon to it is a D500. I have many Canon and Nikkor lenses and I personally have no plans to buy a D850 as I have no need for one. It will do nothing for me that the 5D IV won't do and if it's an issue of more megapixels, I do have a 5D SR. If you are concerned about having the newest and the best then maybe you should return the Canon and get the D850. If you simply want a top quality Full Frame DSLR that will serve you well for many years to come, keep the Canon, but the decision is yours. Choose well and have a pleasant productive day.

How much Canon glass do you have?
What type of photography do you want to do? Are you looking at glass other than the basic trinity of zoom lenses? If there are exotic lenses on your roadmap, they should factor into your decision process.
A camera doesn't exist in isolation, it's a core part of a system. Look at the systems as wholes.

My 7D Mk II has gone totally unused since getting my D500.
And in the 3 weeks I have had my D850 my 5D Mk IV has not left its case.
I am contemplating selling both the Canons at this very moment as I doubt I will ever have need of them again other than for lens test platforms.

what were you shooting with before or is this your first camera. what type of subjects do you you shoot. I could go on but I think you know where I'm going. It's hard to give advice when people give us so little to work with. More information please.

The release of the Nikon D850 won't make your Canon 5D Mark IV stop taking good pictures.
