What lens can I use.
Hello-My name is Tom. I'm a new beginner in photography and would like some help. I just bought a Yashica Electro 35 GSN with a 45mm lens. I would like to know what other lens I could use with this camera. ( Of course after I learn the 45mm lens). Thank you.

Well, you can use their 45mm or, if you don't like that you can use their 45mm! The Electro 35 does not have interchangeable lenses. They did have a set of screw-on adapter lenses. One in wide angle and one in telephoto. Neither one was worth the time it took to screw them on.
BTW, welcome to the Hog!
As you enjoy your new hobby, you will take pictures of many different things, sunsets, landscapes, close-ups of bugs, street shots of people, etc. Eventually you'll want a lens that will allow further specialization. In time, I'm guessing you either answer this question for yourself or at least be able to ask members of UHH a similar question, but with specific possible purposes in mind.
I hope you joy your new hobby as much as we UH Hoggers do.

You have a very capable rangefinder in the GSN, but as you've been told, it is not capable of interchangeable lenses. Use the GSN to improve your skills. The 45mm f1.7 lens is very good. Great for street photos, general photos, and medium distance portraits. The rangefinder focus works well in lower light conditions.
I have owned two GSNs and still have a GL which is slightly smaller but just as capable.

I recently purchased the same camera in good working condition. The Lens is not interchangeable. One thing I noticed is when trying to focus it is very awkward. My fingers tend to get in front of the lens.

What do you want to photograph?
Thanks to all. Just knowing the lens are not interchangable is a valuable lesson. Thanks again.

Have fun! That's a nice, easy to use camera. I had one in '68-'69. Took a lot of slides and photos with it in 'Nam and other places. Just don't forget to take the lens cap off! I took several shots while on R&R in Hawaii with my wife (at that time) watching me. She finally said: "You know you have the lens cap on?" Oops!
True representation for 35mm is the diagonal of the film, aka 43mm and a bit more, and the lens you have is very close to that, so enjoy!
Can you get a battery for your camera? Dosen't it take a mercury battery?

THIS ONE is an alkaline substitute that's supposed to work.
My first 35mm camera was a Yashica, though not this model.
