Nice shot, Joe.
I've had a run in with Carpenter bees in the past. In the front of my old house was a wood railing separating the side walk from the plantings. One day, I noticed "sawdust" on the adjacent foliage under the fence. I got down on my hands and knees to see what was going on and ,lo and behold, there was a bee that was "Drilling" a perfectly round hole into the fence railing on the underside. It was approx. 3/8" dia. The bees bore into the wood then go horizontal and bore a passageway to put their eggs in for future hatching. I stopped the creature by stuffing the hole with an insecticide laden ball of cotton. They came back the following season or two but eventually stayed away.

Thanks Tom for the comment and information. I'm glad I don't have them around my house.
