I've been playing around with this for months. Thanks for refreshing.
Found it awkward to set, going to try again.
I am trying to photograph sand martins and have pushed the speed upto 1/2000 iso 200 at f2-8 plus its an overcast day and it came out black what should it have been so i can try on the simulator.

Change the simulator to overcast instead of sunny. Then 7 ft, focal length 28mm, Aperture f4.5,shutter 1/80 and iso 800. Try that and then play around to see what each setting will do.
I did in fact use overcast and still no joy,I am finding it difficult managing manual only ever used it once and the pics were dark (it was an overcast day)I just need a shove in the right direction.
Just used your settings and for that pic was spot on, but for what i wish to do (shoot birds manually including the high speed martens)would that setting be enough.

Go up to the Search item above and type in BIF. There is a whole lot of information on shooting BIF. I went into each of the postings to find answers. Very interesting. They tell Mode and ISO and other info. I never shot BIF, but will try when we go to the coast the next time. Good luck.
I have photographed gulls and have got some nice pics but they are simple compared to the martins and swallows, those giving the advice in BIF have not posted any pics of martins so i doubt they have tried, (I am willing to be proved wrong)
