Heber, AZ Wild Horses

We spent last weekend in the Heber - Overgaard area in Arizona, looking for wild horses. We found the horses to be widely scattered, in small bands, and very wary of people. Photographing them was a challenge. The first evening, the wind was blowing so hard their manes were standing straight up. The second day, most of the ones we found were in the deep forest . . . heavy shadows and a bit over my ability to photograph very successfully.

Would love to see wild horses. You did well with the challenges I think. Love the amount of light on eye of horse on left of trio shot.

Thanks. I really struggled with the deep shadows. I wondered if there might be too much contrast in that shot but loved the way they always stuck together.

I am so hooked on them. Their relationships with each other totally fascinate me.

They are not always cooperative . . , I hope to check out the herd in Steen's Mountains next summer.
