How beautiful they are, Sherry, and the marigolds spilling over the walk are lovely! Are your azaleas fall bloomers, or are they defiant spring bloomers that don't want the season to end?

Thank you, Donna! This is the first time I have noticed the azalea blooming other than the two weeks in spring. I didn't know there were fall blooming azaleas. We only have one azalea bush - I know that's a sacrilege for the Mobile area - but my issue with them has always been their short blooming period. I want more bloom for my buck! I looked again yesterday and found several more buds coming out, but nothing like their spring bloom.

No! It happens in Texas all the time. Good that you saw these Sherry. Always something nice to photograph.

Thanks for your time to look and comment, Janos. I had never seen mine bloom other than in spring - but it's on the side of the house which I rarely see. I typically don't see the spring blooms other than the ones that spill over the top of the wall.

Very nice, my azaleas didn't bloom at all this year!

Thanks, nimbus! Most of my flowers did very poorly this year - too much rain and too much heat. Don't know about your rain, but I'm sure you had the heat. Maybe yours is blooming now!

How nice to still see summer colors!! Good shots, Sherry, but I must say, marigolds are the only annuals I plant mainly because they transition so well right into fall!

Thank you, Angela! I'm still a novice when it comes to gardening - this is only my 3rd year to plant marigolds and they really perk up after the worst heat of summer is done. And so far, the mums which should do so well in fall have been really poor performers and they don't look promising for this year, either.

Lonely set, Sherry!

Thanks, Swampy! I'm going to assume you meant "lovely" because that strokes my ego. But maybe not - there were only a few blooms, so they may very well be lonely!

The fall blooming ones (Encore) bloom mainly in spring, Sherry, but they also have a smaller show of blooms in fall. Yours could be one of those. Ours bloom for the 2 short weeks in spring if not pruned after June 1. I goofed this year and pruned in July, so little to no blooms for us this spring.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to pay more attention. We only prune ours when two things collide - the bush is taking over the entire side yard and we happen to have the loppers in our hands. Bruce REALLY doesn't like azaleas - growing up, he always had to prune his Mom's and he tried to cut them back so severely that they wouldn't recover - he said that never worked.

So sorry, Sherry and "lovely' was the word I was pecking for!
