Nature continues to amaze me. The first picture is of a chrysalis that was developing on our milkweed. I took this three days ago. I went out this morning, and it was gone. I was robbed of the joy. Thankfully, I have Angela's wonderful chronicle to console me. While missing this miracle made me a bit sad, I certainly feel better than the poor bee in photo #2, and sooner or later, the mantis eating said bee! Please enjoy the downloads.

Bernie.... great shots first off and you know how sorry I am to hear about the chrysalis..... I haven't seen any mantis this year at all, what a great shot, but not only is one mantis eating the bee, you have two there doing their 'thing' and if they really did do their 'thing', when it's over, the female eats the male!!!!

this is sad.... the other day I went to an arboretum and saw a monarch, but when I got closer, it was a mantis eating it.... I was so upset, but it was nowhere near my house, so hope it wasn't one of my babies!!

Bernie---Both the chrysalis, and the shot of the 2 mantis's eating the bee are are very interesting photos, and very nicely done.

Thanks for looking, LD! The second one is a stunner. Coincidentally, I just discovered that the Chinese mantis (most common in these parts) was introduced in America accidentally in 1896 by a nursery guy from the same neighborhood in which I live, according to wikipedia. They then spread throughout the northeaster U.S. Go figure!

Amazing Bernie, how one man can introduce an entire new species by accident to our country, probably with only a handful that originally came over here.
