Need a digital camera that will accept Canon lenses

I have a bunch of lenses that I used on my old Canon AE-1. Is there a way I can use them on a digital camera. I know I will not get the auto focus, but that is ok. I can always use a light meter and manually focus the subject. Adapters etc. What camera would be adaptable?

Thanks to all, You folks are the best

I own a Sony a6000 and use all my old Canon lenses with an adapter. It works great. Any Sony e mount camera is adaptable very easily.

No, there is no easy way to use FD-mount lenses on a modern Canon camera - they made a clean break, completely changing the mount in 1987.

FD mount before 1987

EF mount since 1987

Sony and an adapter is the best way to go. But, this is potentially a more expensive option to use old FD lenses than shopping for a new digital camera, unless those old lenses include Canon's FD L lenses that are still sought after and have resale values in the $900 range.

If budget is an issue, shop for a used digital camera at KEH or ebay. Entry level cameras like the Rebel line might be had at half the original sales price possibly with very light use.

Yes, it is no problem to use those lenses on modern camera. All Sony E mount cameras and most m43 cameras and some more. All it takes is a $5 adapter from China. I am not sure about the Canon EOS M series, maybe you can also get cheap adapter to use your old glass with them.

When using the Sony (I talk about Sony because that is what I have experience with) you can set your camera so that you can focus manually and enlarge the picture in the viewfinder with a push of a button to see what part of it is in focus. Works like a charm and just as easy as using the split screen focusing on your old AE-1. Also you have histogram to check the exposure and the newer models have in camera stabilizing that also works with your old glass. I am using old glass on a Sony A7r all the time, including a few Canon FD lenses. There is no problem at all doing this.

Pick up a Panasonic Gx85 and an FD to m4/3 adaptor.

There are a bunch of FD to EF adapters out there to choose from. I do not have any old lenses, so it has never been an issue for me. Vello, Kipon, FotodioX and probably others make them and they are available at B&H and Adorama.

Despite what others here seem to indicate, you do not need to buy a new camera to use your old lenses.

Of course his AE-1P would work perfectly with his old lenses.

Let me rephrase my dilemna. I have some good lenses that worked great on a Canon AE-1....... I would like to know which cameras with an adapter will they work and not break the bank? I have some good lenses. I would hate to get rid of them.

As a Pentax user, I enjoy using old lenses, but their recent production has been limited. Back when I was a Canon user, looking at the quality of all current lenses {including their "lowly" kit lenses} I wouldn't have added cheap glass at the end of an old lens.

The adapters run from $10 to $99. They don't have any glass. You'll have to decide how much you want to spend on a digital body. Take any of the several suggestions already and google the body and get a representative price, both new or used ...

How much money do you want to throw at using a legacy, manual lens on a digital body? Is that money better spent going digital? Your film camera doesn't have to go away simply because you have a digital camera with electronic metering and auto focus ...

Check out MetaBones adapters and SpeedBoosters. You have several options.
