Heading to Sanibel Island
bdk
Loc: Sanibel Fl.
I'll be on Sanibel on or about the 22nd . I'll be there for a week or two or three, not sure yet.
If you happen to be there that week, and want to shoot, send me a message and if I can make it, we can meet up.
share tips and ideas and get some great shots.
I'll be doing most of my shooting in Ding Darling and Bailey Tract and Bowmans beach.....
If you mean Sanibel Island in Florida I wouldn't guarantee what sort of condition it will be in this close to the time the hurricane hit last week
Timing seems pretty bad...most likely will be very few birds.
Was there the week before the hurricane and have friends there....branches down and some power out but all in all they came out OK.
Wrong time! I was there two days ago. Lots of damage, restaurants closed, etc.
I lived in Fort Myers for 18 years, and we were hit by Charlie and Wilma. You couldn't pay me to go there so soon after Irma. I have friends who are still without power, and gas is scarce.
Any pictures? I grew in the area and have seen it bad before. I think it was the best possible storm path; it could have pushed a lot more water up and over the island.
I'm in Gainesville but grew up in Daytona. Both areas got some damage but the house I live in didn't get much more than rain and some blown down branches & leaves. Several trees nearby were blown down though. Gainesville is in the northeast central area of Florida about halfway between the ocean and the gulf. We didn't get anything near what they got closer to the coast and further south
Be prepared to prove you live there, not everyone allowed to enter. Also no hotels, might if lucky get into a shelter, but last I heard, the shelters were over crowded and people being turned away and sent to other area shelters. Just be fore warned.
I can't speak for Sanibel Island, but things are pretty much back to normal here in Gainesville as far as businesses, motels, gas being available etc. I-75 is about like it's always been. Busy but not backed up

My trip down was to check the house, which was fine but I have 8 big trees down which took down another 5 or so small ones. Went thru ding darling a few times, a Herron was all I saw... there is a rare bird in another park here, lots of people there looking for it, I'll be going early tomorrow morning
