I won too...
Well almost..., but got a 3rd place ribbon. Woo Hoo! Folks, I entered 4 photos in this years Tennessee State Fair. The competition was fierce and challenging with over 350 photographers state wide entering. With such stiff competition, I feel very fortunate and grateful to have come away with one ribbon out of the four entries, so wanted to show all my friends here on UHH. Thanks for your support over the years and for looking Folks...Can't wait till next years Fair. I'll be looking for man-made structures to shoot my birds in instead of this dumb looking log.
P.s. I donated my huge winnings ($6.00) back to the Fair as a gift.

Congratulations James! I like your photo very much. I have always had rough time competing against buzzards.

Congratulation James. If you asked me, your image beats the first place by far, the structure in that image distracts from the main subject in my opinion.

Congratulations to you! Looks like you had a great entry.
Neat picture, James. Congratulations.
Have a nesting pair of piliated woodpeckers (sp?) on my property. Hope to catch them still enough to shoot in the cypress trees or on wing. Saw both of them flying across my backyard recently, naturally without camera in hand.
Looking forward to seeing your next years winning entries!... John
Congratulations, your owl shot is wonderful!!!!

Very nice picture James and well done. I particularly like the texture/colour of the feathers and tree. Very nicely composed. And... if you want my critical opinion... it's better than the buzzard!

Great shot and well deserved my friend...good for you!!
Thanks everyone...I also thought my screech owl in the hollow log was a sure 1st place winner and maybe even a 2nd. One thing I've learned about competitions over the years...is you never can guess how the judges think. Still, it's fun to enter. Thanks again for your gracious comments.
Congratulations. Excellent image.
Good for you, Jim! I don't even know where the hell the state fair is held in Kansas. Julie and I went to the Johnson County Fair last month and the photo competition was pretty lame this year. I did not enter. Oh, by you saying that you donated the 6 bucks back to the fair, did it mean that you bought a ticket to the haunted house?
Congratulations James and beautiful image!

A long ways from you in Hutchinson Tom, in the 24 years I lived in Kansas, never went either. Just wasn't the fair going type back then. I donated the money because the fairgrounds here are old and dilapidated. At one time, the mayor of Nashville tried to close down the fair...he hated it, but he got put in his place by voters.
