I'm sure some of you will be able to identify this big GM diesel. It's used to drive a pump. I saw it on the pier in Welfleet, Cape Cod.

Jerry-looks like a 71-series-either a 3 or 4, depending on number of cylinders. Looks to me like it's probably a 3-71. the 3 denotes # of cylinders and the 71 is the CID of each cylinder. GM Diesel went on to become Detroit Diesel. The 71-series engine was introduced during WWII. The 6-71 was by far and large the most popular configuration. The 3-71 was often used for generators as well as pumps.

I agree an older gm detroit diesel. Should have a blower on it instead of a turbo and also should be 2 cycle.

Those two stroke Detroits were very good at converting diesel fuel into smoke and noise, with little power. But they were nearly bullet proof.

Looks like a 3-71. The blower would have been bolted on the side of the block on the side we can't see and would have been gear driven.
