My Girl Friend who works as a floral designer, seems to think they are of the aster family!

Looking in Google for wild asters, it may be a woodland aster.
Thanks for your help.

I don't know what it is, but I love wild flowers. It might be from Daisy or Aster. BB

Very nice. One of my favorite plants. That is "Large-leaved aster" Eurybia macrophylla, an aster that forms large colonies in northern woods. The less sun the plants gets, the larger the leaves and the less likelihood of blooming. In the deep woods sometimes only one in a hundred plants will bloom each year. But anywhere they get a couple of hours or so of direct sunlight, they will just about all bloom. One of the great things about the plant is the colors of the foliage in the fall. It is native to eastern North America, from Minnesota to Nova Scotia, from Hudson Bay to northern Georgia. It is most common in New England and the upper Great Lakes. It is found a sometimes at elevation as far south as northern Georgia.

Good shot!

Mike

Mike: thank you for the information and for correcting my misinformation. We see a lot of these on our hikes locally.
Thanks for looking and for your comments.

It could be Eurybia divaricata - "White wood aster." The two are very similar.

Thanks Mike; I'll have to research it a bit more.

We don't see the White wood aster here at all (Michigan). Apparently, from what I read today, the Large-leaved aster is much less common back East than it is here. They are so similar that I can't tell them apart from the photos I looked at.

I agree; probably need a real sample & an expert to tell the difference.
