Looks like some Nikon F or Ftn variant.

Correct, except it is not a AS, the AS has a little tap in front specifying AS.

It's an F2, the shutter release on the F was at the back of the top panel. (Among other things) Had to have finger surgery to go back to the later models, LOL! The question remains about which F2.

It’s the meter coupling prong.

It's an F 2. note the window with the F stop indicator, upper right as you face the camera.

That's F2 w/DP11 finder and flash attachment. Still have one, now serving as a paper weight.

I'm on the road...so don't have access to the site, but if you have the serial number you can look up an Nikon body and find the model and the manufacture date.

On my F2, on the top of the body on the left side as the lens faces to the front, next to the film rewind spool, is the label F2 and the serial number in black lettering.
