In Omaha Ne there is a camera store that has been in busines for a long time. It's about 50 miles from where I live. So One day I decided to make a drive to Omaha. I wanted a lot of small items. When I got to the store I was amazed. They had a mirrored wall, 20 feet long, stacked with Nikon lenses. Just like a bar displays spirits. A glass counter filled with cameras. All sizes makes and models. The floor had bags, tripods, and lots of other misculanus items. I was very impressed. A nice man came over and asked if he could help me. I fumbled around for my list and said ya. I told him I needed a Nikon lenses cap for a 18-55 lens, He said out of stock. Then I said any lens cap would be good. He said No none in stock. Then I asked for two lens hoods one for the kit 18-55 & 55-200. He looked on his computer and said out of stock. Then I asked for a plastic cover for my flash shoe. He looked and said No. Then I asked for a larger eye cup. Again None in stock. Then I asked for two rear bayonet caps. I got a yes. Then I asked for a SDHC holder or book. He then took me over to a rack and showed me what they had. They started at around thirty dollars and went up. I said No. Then I said if you have any of these items used that would be ok. Again I got no. So I went to pay for my two rear lens caps, feeling extremely disappointed.
Then he brings out a paper with phone book listings. Then another with candy ingredients said all the photos were taken with a Sony mirrorless camera. He pointed out how my Nikon D3300 could never produce that sharp of pictures. I was very impressed, if I was looking for phone book photos. Then he said they had Sony cameras on sale. I said that's great. He went on to say Nikon buys there sensors from Sony. I said WOW. Then he showed me a two thousand dollar Sony camera. I said I got one already, I got a Nikon with a Sony sensor.

The fact that Nikon, up until the D850, uses Sony sensors is irrelevant, and represents a really bad sales technique.

In this case, it backfired; the OP used the sales rep's argument as a "no sale" technique.

And we wonder why camera stores are closing.

When folks cry about how we should patronize the local stores to keep them alive this is what I think about. It isn't just camera stores, it's lots of things. We aren't killing them, they are committing suicide.

I can't tell you how many times I've had very similar experiences. This is why 90% of my shopping is done online.

Similar thing happened with me. When Canon produced it's first DSLR under $1,000 (Digital Rebel) I went to R*** Camera and went through the full sales pitch, purchasing the camera with a 6 megapixel sensor. Three weeks later the next Rebel came out with an 8 megapixel sensor...exact same price. The camera store knew the new model was coming out when I bought mine but apparently opted to "get rid" of the older model on me. A year later, I went back to the store to buy a replacement battery. "Sorry, they said, "we no longer carry Canon products and don't have any Canon items." I asked where all the great customer support was, they had promised me when they sold me the camera? The clerk mumbled an insincere apology and asked if there was anything else I wanted.

I went to Arlington Camera in Arlington, TX recently and purchased two rear lens caps for Nikon lenses. They've got the front ones, too.

Any time you need accessories like the ones you mentioned, they can all be found on ebay for very low prices. Makes it easy. >Alan

Years ago when I was into developing and printing I purchased a pack of Kodak 5x7 paper. Went to use it and found every other sheet had a dime size spot right in the middle of it. Took it back to McCurry's to have it replaced. Didn't have the receipt and the AH salesperson accused me of stealing it. Although he eventually replaced it I never went back.
