More practice shooting white birds. Swans are a challenge.

Getting the exposure correct to define these white feathers is this months personal challenge. Angler posted the best photo I've ever seen of a swan several weeks ago, and it has inspired me to try and do a better job with mine. It's a work in progress.

I understand the problem of photographing swans. I have a pure white cat and I find it difficult to capture all of her fur without blowing out part of it or having it too dark in other areas. Still working on it. I think that more than half the photos I've taken with D500 since I got it at the end of Dec. have been of my cat. I haven't been able to get out too much so she gets a lot of photos taken of her.

These are nice images. I have the same issue photographing egrets. I rarely get one exposed correctly. You have to have almost perfect light and perfect settings....very hard to do! Good job.

Thank you for looking. I'm sure the cat is loving the attention.

Thank you. These are a huge crop. The birds are at the other end of the pond. The swan is the same size as the center focus square so I can't always trust what my meter is telling me. I think I am finally learning more about the cameras reaction to these situations so by using manual I've been able to control the exposure to a greater degree than I have been.

Thank you swamp cork. The tripod is my best friend. Some day I'm going to get a longer prime.
