I have a picture I want to enter in a contest and was interested in your opinions on cropping. The first image is full frame and the second is what I've come up with after trying several different crops.
Crop, the leaf on the right is too distracting in the first.
Consider a narrower crop pulling in the left and right sides. Look too if you need to clean your sensor. Is that dust in the upper right corner?
I tend to be a fan of a tighter crop, I may crop the top down some too. However, I don't know what the goal of the competition is, or why this one speaks to you, and those things need to be considered as well.
I like the second crop, but am less concerned about the crop than I am that the image is not really sharp. If this contest has anything to do with a photography group, you might want to consider that.
10-4 for LJRenner, focus then move object over to the right or the left NOT dead ctr, IMO

Thank you all for your comments, they are very much appreciated.
Use the rule of thirds instead of cropping dead center
You might want to wait until the flower opens. Might be more interesting.

I took CHG CANON's advice and cropped even more. this is what I entered. Again thank you all for your comments.
Considering that your subject is more vertical than horizontal, I'd pick the second version. As for the leaf, it either goes or include it completely.
