His name was familiar but I didn’t really know who he was until you posted this, then I looked him up on Wikipedia.

He had a full life and his earlier life was most interesting, being interned in Australia from Singapore by British Police.
If one is open minded there are always things to be learned by studying works of other artists.

If I had seen this video in the 9th grade my life would have been changed ... alas at 81it only brings regrets that i can not turn back the clock.... at an hour and 40 minutes, it deserves viewing on my 50" HDTV!!

I have the DVD. I did get to the Berlin museum. Seeing some of the prints, especially full size (life size) was quite inspiring. I just didn't have enough time.
Perhaps what I like most is the back story about the interaction between photographer and subject. Same with Annie Leibovitz, David Bailey, and Ansel Adams.

One of the most compelling if not THE most compelling movie I have seen to date. Exceptional in its scope.
I also attended the Art Center College of Design, way back when it was on 3rd street and Highland ave. Also for photography. The instructors were definitely strict task masters. Especially one teacher by the name of Mr. Potts. Whew!!! He was cruel, but you learned from him!

Wow, thanks for this! I enjoyed the thoughts and interactions between photographer and model and between photographer and printer. This is a film that should hold any photographer's attention. I appreciate your posting.

It is hard to turn away from his work, even when you need to. He was a real artist of the camera, in his own special niche.
