Nazi Germany arose when a psychotic bully was in charge. He created a culture of hatred, a polarized society that led to horrific results. Hitler's society flourished because people did not stand up in opposition to his hatred. His thoughts and actions became not just acceptable but applauded by those who felt their prior government abandoned them. Very few implored others to reject the politics of hatred. Those who were outspoken telling their countrymen what was being done was wrong were shouted down and worse.

How similar is that to what we are seeing today? There are several regular posters here that seem incapable of learning from the past as they applaud the future being created by Trump and his polices.

Before every storm the ocean ripples. The ocean is now roiling and it promises to get worse. Some our fellow citizens here applaud it and rabidly attack those that oppose the policies of the psychotic bully named Trump.

God help the USA.

I am currently reading how Hitler whipped the German press into line in Richard Evans' book the Third Reich In Power. The average American, like the average German, only knows what the newspapers (and now radio, TV, Internet) publishes.

And the average American is reading that our president is claiming the press' reports are "fake nees". How does that align to Goebbles in your book?

Maybe we are inherently tribal and fearful of differences and change. But all things change and evolve, and it would do us well to try understanding. rather that spew hate for things we know lititle about.

Those who cannot learn from the past are destined to repeat it.
Jorge Santayana

It is not hatred with which I write but justifiable concern for what I perceive.

That is one of Trump's battles. The deep establishment has whipped the American press into line - otherwise known as their "agenda". The difference between Hitler and today is that we have a way of hearing directly from our President via Social Media what is really going on with him. Also, during his campaign Trump worked tirelessly having town hall meetings all over the US three, sometimes four meetings A DAY, and they got to see the real man. Americans are not getting fooled, and it is driving the establishment crazy - look at the frenzy that happens whenever Trump is any where near the press. Jim Acosta of CNN went ballistic because at the first WH briefing that Trump gave himself, when it was time for questions, he did not pick on Acosta first - as was the "established" protocol. It drove Acosta nuts then, and still is today - he's made a fool of himself over and over again because he hates Trump so much.

I agree that the president has a terrible relationship with the press. I also agree that there is a fairly large contingent of the press who will go out of their way to make him look bad. The trouble is that he provides them with too many opportunities to bash him with his impulsive, petty, misogynist, narcissistic, hyper-sensitive behavior. In my opinion he is merely telling people what he thinks they want to hear but goes ahead and does what is best for him. Trump is growing less and less effective because he is such a polarizing force. Members of his own party are in revolt. He cannot fulfill his campaign promises as he is unable to work with any congressional contingent. One way to bring the country together is to engage in a serious war. He appears on the track of doing just that.

However, I will give him credit for getting both China and Russia to vote with the US in sanctioning North Korea. I think they are appeasing him but he is making the world well aware that he will use military force to shut down North Korea if they don't go along. He is right to take offense at the continued North Korean provocations. If he succeeds in getting North Korea to stand down and have both Russia and China enforce the sanctions, that will be a major accomplishment that none of the preceding administrations came close to achieving. Yet in so many other ways, my opinion will continue to be that he is a dangerous psychopath who cares more about himself and his ego than he does for the people he is sworn to protect.

Trump is not a politician. He is not polished the way the men and women who climb the ranks politically are. He is more real than any other politician that has held this high office. You say he is "petty, narcissistic and hyper-sensitive"... but I say he is "compassionate, caring and patriotic"...that is why your average American loves him. He is REAL.

My opinion as an average voter who saw him for what he was during his campaign, is that as President, he is continuing to lead while standing on his feet. During the past seven months, it seems that you think he is not fulfilling his promises. Congress thwarts his every move - delaying appointments and thwarting everything he tries to do that he promised. He is more than willing to work with Congress. His pen is ready. What have they given him to sign? So you will tell me that Republicans won Congress? Just look at what they've done whenever Trump tries anything at all....it is shameful how McCain, Ryan and Graham have sold out their promises to their constituents.

Trump has made it clear to China and NK that he is waiting....waiting...waiting..for a move. If they do something, believe me, he will return fire. Imagine if the President of the US made the "first" move after this idiot threatens him because he doesn't want to lose "face". It's one of those "you do it first....no you do it first, no you do it....." situations. Kim Jong Un is a ticking bomb. If Trump on advisement from the Generals and Admirals who know what's going on tell him it's time to do something about that little fat guy who just wants to save face for some reason, he will do it upon their advice, trust me. The Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard all have people on this. Trump does not tip his hand, but he will protect us, I am certain of it.

Well, I understand your desire to believe in him but the "average American" does not share your beliefs on a nearly 2 to 1 opposed. that's not fake news, that's reality.

LOLOL...he is FAKE! just because he can stand on his feet...

also... if there's a "ticking bomb", maybe the best course of action is NOT to be... waiting....waiting...waiting..for a move.

"The Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard all have people on this." Are you saying that our military is aware of the North Korean situation? ...wow, that's a relief, I'm glad trump told them.

so you want me to "trust you" that Trump will follow the advice of his generals. Did they tell him top threaten Kim with "fire and fury"?

...I am glad you are so certain that our president's obvious divinity will guide us through these troubling times...LOLOL

It is funny how it was the "MSM" and the "Fake News" media that helped Trump get elected. Anytime he called in to the news shows they put him on. He got more free air time than anyone! The press is not his enemy. He is his own worst enemy.

Well, she just went up a notch in my book. It would have been disappointing if you had endorsed her.

As much as I consider you an expert on hate, I must disagree.
