I have read reviews of the sigma 100-400 and the tamron 18-400. I would like to know what people who have used then think. Thanks.
I took it to Africa and loved it.

I read a review from Lensrentals that said people rent the 18-300/400 to see the convenience of it, but the resolution isn't worth buying it. The bigger the range (close-tele) for any brand lens the more compromise you accept. I rented a 70-400 G2 lens and an a77ii for a week at Oshkosh and I could have not been more impressed. Lots more keepers than ever. I'll probably purchase one or the other in the future due to better glass (lens) and better focusing system (body). This was my first experience renting and may well do it again.
I am watching this post in interest because I told my daughter to check out the Sigma for photographing youth sports. T-ball so far with eldest grandchild. A lens is a tool. My mantra with tools is get the best you can. You will soon forget about the money but remember the shortcomings every time you use it. But lighter at 1/3 the cost may workout.

My mantra for tools is get the one that best fits the job. The best ball-peen hammer sucks at pulling out nails.

I would get the canon 100-400 if it weighed the same as the sigma. At 76 weight matters.

You hit the nail on the thumb there. It's been a long time since I could use that line.
