I'll be taking a day trip to NYC soon to see the Chihuli exhibit at the Botanical Gardens, and I'm planning my visit. The website suggests 2 hours for the exhibit -- does this sound reasonable, and are there any suggestions for activities after? I'm not too familiar with NYC, so any suggestions will be helpful. We'll be on foot in NYC from about 10am until around 6 or 7pm. Our evening pickup will also be at the Botanical Gardens. Thanks in advance for your advice.
I'd say two hours seems a bit short. I'd probably guess on another 1-1/2 hours, especially if you are going with someone. As for afterwards, find a bar and have a few pints.

Consider getting there early.
Not as many people around and getting in your shots.
But, people in your shots will show how large some of his creations are.

Hi, I did not see the Chihuli exhibit in NY, but in Seattle. We covered it in about 2 hours (my wife was in a wheelchair). You could take longer, but for us it was the right amount of time. I took lots of photo's with my IPhone. Flash photography was not allowed, nor would you want to use it because it would take away from the beauty of the exhibit IMHO. If I were to do it again, I would take my DSLR with a fast prime lens or at least a small 1"sensor compact like the Canon G7X Mark 2.
Enjoy the exhibit, it is spectacular.
I saw his exhibit in Dallas at the Botanical Gardens. The pieces were spread out all over so it took time to get from piece to piece plus the time spent admiring each one. Two hours is about what it took. If it had not been so hot, we might have lingered longer over each piece. You are in for a treat.

I'd say an hour "Max".
To me Chihuli is closer to being a Craftsman than an artist. After you seen several, it becomes a bit boring or monotonous.
FYI: There is nothing wrong with "crafts", but fine art tends to be more...? Age old argument... Take a look.

We have been to Phoenix gardens twice. 2 hours is not enough time. I think i spent that much time looking through the view finder.

If possible, you might consider staying long enough to get shots during light hours and after dark.
Sometimes the way they're illuminated at night can be very photogenic.
Regardless how long you stay (I spent about 3 hours in Phoenix) you will be very close to Arthur Ave. and some fantastic Italian food. Must make that a stop.
Bronx zoo is next door. Arthur Avenue has some of the best Italian restaurants and faces in ny

The Gardens are huge, and the glass will be spread all over. They have trams to drive visitors around, so use them. Two hours can go by pretty fast. They have a nice restaurant, cafeteria style. Even if you don't see every piece of glass, you'll see a lot, so don't sweat it. The idea is to enjoy the experience.
if you can, try walking across Brooklyn Bridge - best shots of skyline are from Brooklyn side and great ops at the shoreline of Brooklyn. Riverside Cafe at base of bridge in Bklyn is wonderful but $$$

Brooklyn Bridge is a long way from the Bronx Gardens, however I think the Bronx zoo is nearby, been years since I was up in that end of the city, about 2 hours in public trans, could be more by car, Bob
The Bronx Zoo is next to the NY Botanical Gardens,
You can spend a whole day between the two,and still need more time.
Great way for a late summer, early autumn experience.

I am a member of the garden and have seen the exhibit 3times. Two hours, in the conservatory sounds about right, but there are tram rides around the garden that are for getting off and getting back on, library, which also has Chihuly exhibits, separate rose garden, dahlia garden, etc. Many photo ops here. I would give your visit about 6 hours or so. Have lunch, snacks, visit the beautiful shop in the garden, etc. The Zoo across the way is for another day. Much to see.
