I just ran across these images of Bodie that I took last fall - images were of the left and right sides of the "Ghost Town" merged for full view of the street through town. I have trouble with the sky where it overlapped.

Yes it is and for the son of a 'Tramp Hard Rock Miner" Bodie is like towns I lived in as a youngster in CO, NV, CA AND ID. Some interesting stuff along with the historical.

Enjoyed your images!!

Thanks- you were close when you were in Sonora/Rail Town- OK 150+ miles 5 hr drive over Yosemite's windy steep roads.
I am hoping you may have an answer for me - it is about "Belt" style cable - I never saw it around the mining towns I lived in and recently I saw small sections of in Virginia City and then large quantity on equipment/hoists here in Bodie.

Looks like something for one of the car restoration shows on cable. Those guys could have it looking like new if you have $200k and a couple of years to invest.

No idea. I've never seen anything like it. Was it used in mining? Most cable is referred to also as wire rope because it's made in the same way as rope only using wire instead of organic materials.
My thought on this belt type wire rope is it was for very specific heavy lifting for not too long a distance - a few hundred feet at the most as the spools would not hold more than that. Most mine shafts have head rigs with capacity of up to 6,000 ft of conventional wire rope -
again I was raised around and been in several mines and "never" saw this in use and have not been able to find any info on it in my searches.

Running around Colorado, I've not seen this type of cable.
I'm guessing it is for lifting larger and heavier cages.
This past summer, I was hoping to see a complete boiler setup
with gauges. Found an old picture of one in Central City.
Maybe, the mining museum in Colorado Springs has one.

Harvey, Very nice shots. Had you not pointed out the merging problem in the sky, I doubt that 90% of your viewers would have seen it.

Very nice rendition Harvey, wish you had made the download version bigger though.
I have been there numerous times and have a different perspective of the place each time.
I bought a about the town that has a great deal of very interesting information about its history and the people who occupied the town. The book is:
"The Images of America: Bodie 1859-1962", by Terri Lynn Geissinger,Arcadia Publishing 2009
That's a really nice pano. I've never been too successful at combining pics that way. I'm sure some PP guru here would know how to fix that sky. If it weren't for that, one wouldn't even know!
Make sure you use the same exposure for both pics. That means manual exposure and focus as well.
