Volleyball season has begun!

Started shooting my daughters volleyball games last year with a D3300 and moved
up a bit to a D5300 for this year. Still shooting in large jpegs but have started
using RAW a bit more and playing around with that. The high school gyms are quite
dark so lighting is the challenge and 1/640 is a minimum shutter speed for volleyball.
Seems going up to 800 ISO is way too grainy. I'm shooting with an 85mm 1.8
usually at f1.8,1/640 and ISO of 500, or when I can get a bit closer the 50mm 1.4
at f2, 1/640 and ISO of 500. AF-C on single point seems to get me more keepers.
I then edit in Lightroom. First one is from last year, the rest are from various
scrimmages and Invites this year. Let me know any tips and what you
guys think! Thanks a bunch.

Looks like your gym is better lit than the college gym I shoot in. I'm shooting with ISO of 3200 to 4000 to get a shutter speed of 800.
Your shots look good but at the net try to get faces. Shoot from the other end of the court.

Your shots are spot on sharp and the lighting looks very good. I agree about getting more of the face, but then you might have to change lenses and have other types of issues.

I agree with getting more faces, but it is tough shooting from the end as there are always 6 players in the way.
Many times trying for a block. Unless of course you are up higher on bleachers which most schools do not have on the ends.
I know I have a few that have turned out. My longest lens with a large enough aperture is the 85mm and sometimes
is not quite enough. a 135 at 1.8 would be great to shoot from the ends with! I know the net messes with the focus
a bit, might have to try prefocusing on the players through the net and then put it on manual focus.

I think you got some great shots! I especially love #4. Your lighting looks great and did you do some noise reduction? They look pretty clean. If you can bump up the shutter speed a little is the only suggestion I would make. I can't wait to get some of my granddaughter and I'll share when I do. My daughter has been streaming the games to us.
Thanks for sending!! Please do again.

Thanks! I did some cleanup in Lightroom including noise reduction, but the 500 iso worked pretty well. I am going to shoot the games
tonight and try iso 800 and jump the speed up, and shoot the 50 1.4 wide open and see how the depth of focus is there.
I'll also try shooting through the net with the 85.

Here's a few more shot from the ends. Good challenge to try for sure.
Two different gyms.
