Now that the new Nikon 10-20 f/3.5-4.5 is out besides the obvious of price which do you pros like better between the Nikon 10-20 or the tokina 11-20. I'm using a d3300. Money is no problem. Please help me in all ways- thoughts, links (Jerry) advice. Thank you all in advance.

Check compatability. I was looking at one and the salesperson said it wouldn't work with my D5100.

I believe it's quite a stretch to consider either one a "pro" lens.

We are talking about two different lenses. I will tell you what I know because I do not own any of them.
The Nikon lens is of a variable aperture while the Tokina is a fixed f2.8. The Tokina is slightly more expensive and surely better built. The Tokina is very sharp, I do not know enough to comment on the Nikon lens.
Nikon wide angles have been usually plagued with complex distortions. Tokina has corrected their wide angles very well.
The lens made by Nikon has a so called motor P meaning it is not compatible with many cameras. No problems with Tokina.
If you need the f2.8 aperture and if your camera is not compatible Tokina is your option.

No, no, no. It is not a fixed f2.8 aperture. It has a variable aperture range from f2.8 to f22. It's widest aperture of f2.8 is available thru out its zoom range of 11-20mm.

Forgive the misunderstanding. I meant the pro people not the lenses. Amateurs can pitch in too.

I have nothing but Nikon lenses. But, from what I have read and sample images I've seen the Tokina would get the nod.

Thank you Bill. I would prefer the Nikon but if the tokina is better then yes I'll nod over that way 😀

Also wondering about the plastic mount. But I think my kit lenses are also plastic mount.

I believe "fixed aperture" means the widest f stop is the same (fixed) for the whole zoom range as opposed to vari-aperture lenses where the widest f stop varies with zoom.

Rich, thank you for the midday laugh. Just as an FYI, most of us are snapshot shooters, very few pros post here.
