Hi , I'm not a professional photographer but I love this hobby. Started out with a Minolta 35 mm then when Sony bought them out I purchased my first digital, a100, then upgraded to a65. Had a mishap and the camera got wet. I had it repaired but never the same so then I purchased an a77ii. I have telephoto, prime 50 mm and a wide angle and of course kit lens. However, I've been thinking of purchasing a Nikon 7200. Would it be wise or a waste of money?

Great choice. Many have been quite satisfied with it's capabilities. Check out refurbished as well as new. Howard5252 had a used one with low shutter count for sale recently. PM him if considering.

I shot with a D7100 and love it. The 7200 will be great for you!

Since I'm not familiar with the camera you have, I can't say whether it is a wise move. I can say from personal experience that the D7200 is a very good camera and a real bargain at the current price.

I would buy the new D7500. The reason is because it has fewer pixels than the D7200. By reducing the pixel count, they're able to make the pixels larger. That's good for a variety of reasons - camera shake is less evident, focusing issues are less evident, diffraction will not be evident as soon when stopping down the aperture. The pixel well capacity almost doubled when they went from 24.2 megapixels to 20.9 megapixels.

I'll ask, since none of the Nikon fans are asking, the Nikon D7200 is a fine camera, but what is it about the Sony a77ii that you haven't liked?

We didn't ask because the answer is obvious to Nikon fans.

IT'S NOT A NIKON!

Don't bother with either the D7200 or D7500, get the D500. It is simply a superior camera to both its siblings.

I have a D500. It's a very impressive camera. I recommended the D7500 because its price is about the same as the D7200.

There is nothing that I can say I dislike about it. I have always owned a Sony. However , I started looking when my camera froze up with an error message. Had to send it in to be repaired. I had 8 days under an extended warranty. Whew!!! It was repaired but 13 days later it happened again. Sent it back . Sony paid the bill since after the repair you are given 90 days warranty. So far so good this time.
