Nikon Firmware Update

I purchased a used Nikon d7100. I checked the firmware version on the camera which shows C 1.00. The current version from Nikon is 1.03. My question is whether installing the current version will also incoprorate the 1.01 and 1.02 versions and if I should expect any issues.

Also, can I upload the firmware directly to the camera through a cable connection from my laptop?

Thanks !

Bob

Yes it will, and no you cannot do a firmware update via a cable connection to a computer. You need to download the zip file for your camera and extract the .bin file to a SD card.

See official Nikon update instructions. The document is older, but the procedure is the same.

Yes, all updates contain all previous ones and are complete themselves. Go to the Nikon site to get detailed instructions about upgrading and follow those instructions. All the Nikon updates I've ever done have been loaded to a memory card first and then read into the camera from the card. It's really very easy to do. Best of luck.

It's a simple procedure if you follow the directions carefully. I upgraded the firmware in my D3300 yesterday and it took about 10 minutes total. After you download the zip file from www.nikonusa.com and unzip it, copy ONLY THE .BIN FILE to your memory card, put the card in the camera, and go to your camera menu and click on the "update firmware" prompt. It will take about 3 minutes for all the data to transfer from your memory card to your camera. When it says "update completed", reformat your memory card and you're done. Watch the videos on Youtube. It's a simple procedure. The latest update will incorporate all of the earlier updates.

yes updates fill in any that you did not draw on in the past.

It would include other upgrades that you might have missed.

While you're in an updating frame of mind, you might as well update the lens distortion firmware, too. It requires downloading a different file, but the process is exactlly the same. And the lens update goes much faster in the camera.

Thanks for the tip on the Lens Distortion firmware. Didn't know there was an update. Just updated my Nikon.....took about 1.5 minutes to do it.
