I just got the TS9020 what a fabulous machine (I got it in white, not red) Keep in mind one thing just so you aren't surprised. this is a COLOR printer. it has 6 cartridges the three colors, black, and also GREY for color (dye inks) and also has a larger black cartridge in pigment for text. however you cannot shut the color cartridges off completely. you set for grey scale and it will print grey scale but will still use the color cartridges a little bit. I personally dont mind after market inks are very reasonable

the printer adds the grey when you print a black and white print havent been able to try it yet, but VERY COOL

the 9020 has 6000 nozzles! thats resolution! the epsons sitting there in the price range only have a document feeder included which i dont want or need. it was a no brainer to go canon. I have been waiting for my cheap HP to die so i could get a canon. Still running so i went and got the canon anyway needed network printer salesguy thinks that the 9020 in the price range beats the color compared to the epson he uses a $300 Epson but said that the 9020 in the price range cant be beat for color i think that pro 100 may have the same nozzle system it just prints a bigger page

it may not be perfect but this thing prints beautifully

AMAZON has it for $114 right now of course with Prime theres no shipping without prime i dont know but the four year square trade warranty is $14

make sure you check the footprint so you know how it will fit in your environment

canon explains that although the pigment inks will last longer they arent as brilliant as the dye inks so thats why they use them in these price range printers. those limitations on print life i beleive are when the prints are in significant light all the time.
those three colors in one cartridge are a real pain becuase you have to chuck them even if you only run out of one color. I have an HP that does that and its a pain to reload the cartrdiges expecially the color ones
with the six cartrdige system of course you replace only that cartridge that runs out.
I have no experience printing color photos but was told that even though you can get a good print with aftermarket inks its advisable to use Canon brand papers I will be experimenting with that in the future.

I did a search on printers, but there were no articles labeled printers that were new enough to be of any use. My HP 750 All-in-One Printer has bit the dust. I am looking for another printer that prints 8 1/2 x 11 as well as 4x6 photos. Can I get some pros and cons for different printers? I would prefer to get something for less than $400, but might go over that for the right printer. Also, I have limited space in which to put the printer, so that is a big consideration.

I think my printers will outlast me If I ever need a new one, I will read everything I can online - reviews and comparisons by people who do that for a living. Also, consider the cost of printing. Most good reviews and comparisons will give you a cost per page for B&W and color. Someone cane ink for a lower price, but the printing cost will still be higher. Some useful links below -

What part of limited space do folks not comprehend?!
Yes, the Pixma Pro 10 and Pixma Pro 100 are great printers, I know, I have one of each but they are also large printers and the OP specifically stated, limited space. That is why I recommended the Canon TS-9020. It is less than half the size of the larger Pixma Pro printers. It prints up to 8.5 X 11 photo prints. It prints all type of paper. It's photo prints quality is incredibly good. The ink cartridges aren't outrageously expensive and if one is into black and white prints, it is second to none. The TS-9020 is my general purpose and small photo prints printer and I couldn't be happier with it.

Thank you for the information. Right now this printer is at the top of my list for printers.

Almost 95% of my fellow Huggies recommends one type of Canon or another. I would like to recomend that you review the Epsom line of printers. Based on your requirements Epsom should satisfy cost, size and performance.

Does the Epson printer also print plain paper documents or just photos?

A photo printer is built with high quality printing in mind [both color and B&W], requiring a different level of technology than one used primarily for documents, but both will print pictures. I use my all-in-one for everything and get good photo prints from it. While they do not mention it in the product review for photo printers, there is no reason why they would not print documents, too.
