I have been away from photography for a while and I'm just getting back into it. Back several years ago, I dabbled in post processing with Elements 4. Now I see an opportunity to buy the canon two lens kit and for $40 more get filters for both lenses and Corel PaintShop Pro X9; Corel VideoStudio 9; Corel AfterShot 2 Pro.

My question is whether I should look elsewhere for post processing. I seem to recall that PaintShop wasn't all that good back when it started out.

I realize everyone has an opinion, but I'm interested in what you folks who have used PaintShop think about version X9.

Hello ejones and welcome to the forum i use prox9 and am real satisfied with the results i have been using paintshop for years i am familiar with the work flow.
You will get different opinions on post processing they all have advantages and disadvantages the learning curve on some are more difficult than others.
If you would like to view some of my post to see my result using prox9 to use as a guide to make an informed decision. Hope this helps any question you have feel free to contact me. Saying hello from Pittsburgh.P.S. for forty dollars i think that would be a nice buy.

Recently purchases PSP X9 and have attempted to install on Win 10 laptop. To date, have been unsuccessful. PSP customer support has been less than helpful. Does anyone on this forum have experience loading? If so, care to offer help?

Don't be quick to blame PSP. I installed Windoze10 on my work computer and quickly rolled it back to Windoze7. Windoze10 had trouble working correctly with Excel & Word. You would think they could get it yo work with their own software.

I have had PSP for a few years now but was frustrated with the slow adjustment processes and the occasional freeze up even with the newest version. My suggestion for you or anyone else is to look into the newer and robust editing software Affinity Photo, it's a Photoshop alternative for minimal price of a one time cost of $49.99.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will give that a look as well. You bring up another thing that bugs me about Lightroom and Photoshop. Why would I want to pay for it month after month without end? There is surely an acceptable alternative to that model.

Yes, an acceptable alternative is Photoshop Elements, sold without any subscription. You mentioned you had experience with an earlier version (it's now up to 15) so perhaps it would be attractive to you. In past years Costco has had a super sale every fall on the latest version - as I recall I paid about $40 for PSE 14 a couple of years ago. I've never used Photoshop but many say Elements will do about 90% of what Photoshop does and has a less steep learning curve (but it's plenty steep for me!) If you do landscapes the dehaze function in the Adobe products is very effective and useful.

I had no problem installing the newest version of PSP Ultimate on Windows 10 , if your having a problem it's because there is something you have installed or a few windows 10 files messed up . I also use PS and acouple others . PSP today's version works pretty good , I use it for doing just a few thing that I find better than using PS . But I use PS 99.8% of the time

Adobe is much over rated, but like an old house shoe is the comfort of many. Newest threat to PS is Affinity... one time payment of $50 and a world of tools and setting. Use Search to find UHH comments on affinity. I have uploaded 10 of the menus and it will show you the power.

Topaz has a new Studio 2, FREE, and for $40 you can get Clarity for Studio also a full tool kit for [wait til end of year $100] for 139... what over the years I have paid a lot for the suite.

Google has abandon NIK collection and is giving it away. Worth having.. price is right!!

YES, PSP X-9 is excellent.... people may complain ... typically they have an old clunky lap top with limited resources. OR... won't load.... over the top antivirus problem... and if they turned off the antivirus then perhaps it may load.

X9 is way outdated. My last copy of PSP was X10 and it is way out of date now.

I must be thinking of version X

Thanks for all the comments. I'll have to do more searching and chewing before I decide. I've pretty much eliminated the package with PSP X9 since its apparently fairly old.

I have PSP and feel it meets all my needs and then some. I use it on a desktop so I have better processing speed then on a lap top. I like that it is a one time price with no subscription fees like Photoshop or Elements.

Elements does not have a subscription fee as do Photoshop and Lightroom.

I am currently running PSP X9 Ultimate on Windows 10 with no problems. I had no problem installing X9 and it runs great. Did you get a corrupt copy of the software? I always download directly from Corel. I have done that with X7, X8, and X9 and never experienced any problems installing the software. I might be able to help you if I knew where in the installation you were experiencing your problem. Does the install just quit or does it finish and tell you it installed correctly? PSP installs both the 32bit and 64bit versions at the same time. Two icons appear on your desktop. You select which one you want to run. I do use X8 on another small laptop also running Windows 10 and had no problems with it either. In my opinion, PSP is a great program and will serve you well for a long time. Capable of using TOPAZ, NIK, AKVIS, and other plugins designed for Photoshop which I use many. Good Luck. Have a GREAT DAY!
