I live in SW VA. My wife wants to take a road trip to the Finger Lakes in NY.
She turned to me and asked me if there was anyplace I would like to go to in PA or NY state to photograph or tourist site to work my camera. I have no clue. I grew up in northern NJ and have no interest in returning. Anly suggestions?
Niagara Falls and the Eastman Kodak Museum in Rochester, New York.
I already broached TX with the wife, load tools and head to TX pick up a friend on the way and offer help. She said no contractors license. I told her I don't need a license to tear out wet sheet rock or any other dry out work. No installation, no license needed. Also I am 70 and brain and body don't agree with what I can do any longer. Body seems to win. As to Vermont. Been there but that was 40 years ago, could go back but new ground would be a new experience. I am sure they still have the round barn with the deer head and the steam boat on land. Sturbirdge village... I think
In PA, I've hung a left on Rte 6 north of Scranton and followed it to the Grand Canyon of PA around Wellsboro. It spends a lot of time following the Susquehanna River and the cliffs and outcrops over the river can be spectacular. Kinda like the Palisades, but less travelled.
Then keep going on Rte 6 until you fall into lake Erie-- northern PA has lots of interesting stuff that isn't too touristy.
Really need to consider Watkins Glen, NY, an hour below Rochester. Great place to photograph. Go to upper parking and work your way down. Shuttle takes you back to upper lot. I'm 72 and going bottom to top would be too strenuous to enjoy the photo ops. Lots of tourists to deal with, but if you are patient you can get some good shots. Go to the race track nearby and watch the sports cars zoom past. For a small fee, maybe $25, you can drive the track behind a pace car. Max speed 55mph but get fun to drive a famous track like that. And relax in a brewpub downtown after the day's activities.
Niagra Falls and Thousand Islands.

Went to Sturbridge two years ago and it was a disappointment from my first trip about 1967. But there are a thousand other places to go and thing to do in NE. I would go with no agenda, and google every day for what is near where you might be. There are just so many places I could list them forever.

Wait for Foliage to start. Then replan trip to Vermont and make sure you go to the Northeast Kingdom.

There's a kingdom up there now?!
I was raised in Michigan, but northern New York is gorgeous, esp. in the Adirondack Park area, which actually encompasses 102 towns.
