Yongnuo YN685 User Guide?

Anybody know of a good guide for this flash and it's 622 controller? The pigeon English in the manual is frustrating. Questions range from basics (What are the two included cables that don't appear to do anything) to advanced multi-flash capabilities. I've got it working well on and off camera, but neither Mr Google or Mr YouTube have anything past basic use.

As for the manual, things like "When loosing the button, the groups have been selected of flash will be tested for once" makes my head hurt.

That's the main reason I didn't keep the Yongnou remotes I bought.
I hate reading instructions even when well written.
(Frustrates the heck out of my wife)

I feel your frustration, experimenting with my flash off camera now. Good LUCK

I am not certain there is a well written YN-685 manual, but the link below has a good YN-622C guide. If you only want to use your 685 in 622 mode (and not 603 mode), then it may be helpful. I think the hardest part is remembering how to change between 603 and 622 mode.

I'm not sure if this is the same manual that you have, but I know this one has helped me a lot. Once you figure out the basics and know what to look for, it's really not too difficult. I switch settings frequently and no longer refer to the manual. Usually, if I run into problems (especially with the remote functions), it's almost always my fault in overlooking something simple. If you can get through the learning curve, these are really sweet units. I've worked mine hard and they've never let me down. Good luck!

I understand what you are saying....I have used this for about one year....it is ok . I use it with a Nikon D750. When in use it disables auto ISO and slows down burst continuous mode. So for me that is a game changer. I just ordered a Nikon SU-800. It is suppose to work flawlessly!! We shall see......

I feel the same way about reading instructions.

Watch the YouTube videos and throw away the manual. I watched a couple and one of them made it a snap. Can't remember which one though. There are three or four decent ones.

I know the feeling. Crossed my mind that whomever writes a decent guide would sell lots of copies. The 685 is a great flash, but the instructions suck. I don't remember two cables included, but if you look at the flash it has two inputs. One is for external power and the other for sync. So, that could be their use. I was able to figure out much of this flash. Every time I did I wrote it down step by step. Let me know what you want to know and I might have already figured out. The hardest part for me was to get my Nikon SB-600 flash zoom in/out TTL off camera with the 622 controller, but it can be done.

I have the SU 800 and it works well within its limits.
I have used it outside and as long as the receiver port on the flash is pointed at the SU-800, it has fired flawlessly.
Inside, the set-up is pretty sensitive and woke well.
The specs say it takes about a second to recycle so in continuous mode you may not be a happy camper.
On the speedlight end, depends on how much power you're using.
Your flash is going to need time to recycle and if you overwork it, it may overheat.
My co-worker melted the fresnel lens on a Nikon SB800 and I've overheated an SB 900 once..it shuts down.
