I call it Aggressive/Defensive Driving. I go just a smidgen faster, so I can get away from the brain dead drivers.
But their numbers are going up constantly.
So... I stay away from where they are causing the traffic jams, travel at night, or stay home and smile.
I'm always friendly with any officers I see, too. They have a target on them, the bad guys don't. And I never got a ticket I didn't earn 1,000 times over. Last time I went through a DUI stop it was a hot day. The officer asked if I'd have anything to drink today. I picked up my water bottle from the console and said, "Yes Sir! Water!" He laughed, and I offered him a frosty new bottle. He Thanked me, and pointed to an Ice Chest and said "I've got plenty." And waved me through.

Besides, I don't need to go, I have all these great friends doing that for me. They even pay their own way!

I was watching the NASA TV feed. Their camera-person was an embarrassment at Madras, OR. Even I could have held the camera better. (And I know I suck at it.) We recorded that, the Weather Channel's broadcast (better), And ABC's with David Muir (Best). NASA needs to hire Pro's for the shows.
I got worried about you, so I went hunting. You must have gotten lost because I saw your Flicker Pages with the Orygone Coast. Very nice! I thought to myself, "Jim turned the wrong way and headed to the Ocean on his way home!"
It wasn't until I scrolled down a ways I found out you did actually get there.

Have a blast with the New Beastly CGEM. Looks like one heck of a deal with all the add-on's.
Don't break your back moving it around. (Envy...)

Glad all went well and you're back home Safe and Sound!

Your not the first to say that. I met the crew from the Discovery channel and they left me wanting as well.
I had a great time letting people look through my little Lunt. I had it tuned in to the prominences along the edge and my counter part was tuned for the spots.. we bounced people back and forth to view what we had and explain what they were seeing.
We had roughly 4000 people peer into our lenses.
Totality ended and people couldn't leave quick enough. We stayed until final contact, answered questions for a bit longer and had a lunch.
None of us even missed that we hadn't eaten but by the time we were packed and ready to go, traffic was pretty decent.
Sure was a fun trip..

Yep. Watching production is vastly different than the finished show. And Live really tells of how dumb the talking heads can be. They are paid to talk, not for their intelligence. Like one who asked if we should be worried about Solar Flares... What's he gonna do? Call the fire department?

Traffic is a fun study. Herd-space, herd-space, and the dolts who have to hover in the blind spots. It's like they want to get hit.
I call them Brain Deads. They live in oblivion... And they are the ones in big pile-ups.

You traveled a long, long way. You earned your Poopedom. Kick back, drink water.

Oh... we are sending you some fresh brush fire smoke!

Those fires are a long way off from us. The closest is probably 25 miles. The talking heads are saying the biggest one in history.
Not even close. The Bel Aire fire was 2X+bigger. And the Gorman fire was huge in the late 1960's. They asked for volunteers to help. Some friends and I drove up near it and the heat and huge flames convinced us to let it burn itself out. Forget that! A Shovel VS: 400 foot flames?

The Stouts can help with the aches and pains, but the water kicks the jet lag out.

I was just looking out back.
I predict we will have nice clear skies soon....
Just in time for the Full Moon.
Perfect!

The color has not been enhanced.
I got up to put the trash curbside and went back in for the camera first.
This is through the smoke this morning.

Blach!
Looks like L.A. air, alright.

Now that the heat wave is ending, we have On-Shore flow coming back...
Along with fog, and high atmospheric moisture.

And a full moon.

Can't win!

It's kind of sad, we don't have any major fires burning in New Mexico and I don't think Arizona does either.
That leaves Sonny's darn Bar-B-Que grill to blame..

Your map shows Ashland Oregon as dark red. Very unhealthy. It sure was when I was there. My eyes watered and lungs struggled. I'm sure Jim the Smoky Pilot did too.

Looking at the big picture, I certainly would concur...

Smegma! I wonder if NOAA saw that?

Looks like Brian's neck of the woods is mostly to blame.

But in the Canadian's defence, they leased their Super Scoopers to Los Angeles. So they don't have a pot to pee in, nor a window to throw it out of.

(I'm in the flight path for the Super Scoopers to skim water out of Castaic Lake. At least for the La Tuna Canyon fire.)

They are amazing.
They fly together and really deliver a 1-2 punch on the wildfires.
They were back and forth all of the daylight during the La Tuna Canyon fire.

It dumbfounds me why L.A. doesn't buy a pair outright.
