I've been reading UHH for several months now, but just registered today. I'm another boomer who's been involved in photography for practically forever. I currently shoot a Canon 5D III, a Canon 7D II, and a Fuji XT-2. I would fit in the semi-pro category. I do work for a local non-profit world class museum and wildlife preserve, but mostly on an in-kind basis (this is not taking work from a professional because high caliber photography is not in their budget). My husband also enjoys photography and we actively pursue it as a hobby both locally and when traveling. Our work for local non-profits is often published in the local newspaper and in a local magazine. We still attend photography classes because it's fun! We're registered for the upcoming Kelby PhotoWalk. Our vacations are always to photographically interesting places. It's a way of life for us!!
Welcome to the Hog neighbor. I'm looking forward to seeing your work. Work seems like the wrong word for our end product. Perhaps it should be called Fun.
Good to see another Okie on here! And, yes! It's mostly fun! However, there can be quite a bit of work to our fun! 😊
You mentioned attending classes. I'm 65, but realize I'm never too old to learn. Where/how do you find these classes?
Classes are offered through TCC as a part of their Continuing Education program. They have a certification program that requires a series of classes, but there are also several electives. We enjoy Art of Seeing, Architectural, Tulsa by Night (the name of that class changes) and several others that get us out and about. Also, Apertures offers several classes. Natalie Green owns Apertures and also teaches at TCC. There are other instructors both places. We're in Bartlesville, but not as much is offered here.
I have been away from photography for 20+ years due to a corneal disease that robbed me of sharp vision. Recently I was able to get it mostly corrected through advances in contact lens technology and I've taken my camera back up. I live within walking distance of the Southeast campus, so I'll check them out.
The program has been through some ups and downs, but it seems to be back UP now. Some classes are held at the SE location, others downtown. Some meet at Apertures (just North of 21st on Harvard). Just depends on the class. Enjoy and good luck!!
I drove by Apertures yesterday and it looked like they weren't open. I'll have to try them again next Saturday.
Short hours on Saturday. 10:00 to 2:00, I think.
