I am thinking about buying the sony CX57 with a tamaron 18 to270 lens. Does anyone have this camera or know anything about it? Im also looking at the Nicon 3200. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Do you mean Sony a57? If so, the Sony actually comes out on top of you google Nikon d3100 vs. Sony a57. The Sony initially costs a little more but it also has more features. The Nikon is also a good camera.

However, in the long and short run, the Sony has built in image stabilization therefore saving you a whole bunch of money when it comes to buying lenses. You can even buy Minolta AF lenses that are excellent for under $50.00. Did you know that Sony makes the sensors for Nikon?

If you are not talking about the a57, then forget anything I said about the Sony; except for the part about the sensors.

You can't go wrong with either brand.

Yeah, what tainkc said. Why not buy the real Sony instead of a Sony sensor in another package with another name?

I bought the Sony a33, mainly because I had Minolta AF lens that would work on it. But also because of the reviews and the fact it was awarded best camera of the year from one of the photography magazines. I would NOT recommend it. Although it takes great pictures, the battery power is beyond awful. After about 45 minutes, I got the message that the camera was overheating and it shut down. The battery drains even when you don't use the camera. And, it takes 4 HOURS to recharge! Sony does not make a battery grip for this model. I have found a few ways to work around the problem - don't use the LCD, turn off the camera between shots, buy two extra batteries - but it is enough of a problem that I have purchased a second camera to take on vacation. When I spoke with Sony regarding the problems, the basic attitude they exhibited was "oh well". As far as I can tell, there are no plans to correct the problems. I will not purchase any other Sony products and I cannot recommend them. This may be a problem associated with just the a33 model but due to their attitude, I would not take a chance with any of their other products.

That is so strange that you had this experience with them. I have had the complete opposite experience from them and I will not jump brands because of how well they treated me.

@amature, your experience is the opposite of mine. The A500's I have do not drain batteries when idle. Eveything I have heard and seen is that Sony provides great customer service. It might be worth recontacting them and speaking with a manager/supervisor about your experience and camera.

Canon and nikon are brilliant cameras' but regarded as the top one at the moment is the a77, I have never yet seen a revue that puts the a57 behind a nikon or canon.
