Removing Confederate statues today. What comes next? Book burning?
Just read that a black Chicago pastor wants the mayor to remove names of President George Washington and President Andrew Jackson from parks. He said they don’t deserve the honor of having parks named after them. Seeing their names offends him because they were slave owners. Actor James Wood tweeted, "That didn’t take long.”
History needs to be remembered - the good, the bad and the ugly. We learn from it. We become destined to repeat the sins of the past if we deprive ourselves of the ability to remember them.
This stupidity of trying to erase history because someone is offended by it needs to stop.
Few are offended by money, but...
$1 bill Washington - slave owner
$2 bill Jefferson - slave owner
$5 bill Lincoln - did not agree blacks were equal
$10 bill Hamilton - slave owner
$20 bill Jackson - slave owner
$50 bill Grant - slave owner

👍👍History is something we should learn from and the statues and antiquities remind us of times when standards were so much different to today. My own views have changed so much through my life and I'm sure many hoggers have changed also. The 21st century thinking is so much different to the 20th and19th. By the way if you have any of those dollar bills you feel uncomfortable with please send them over to me and I will gladly take responsibility for them. 😂

Most of these 'Civil War' statues were not erected until the 1900 hundreds. They were placed in support of the Jim Crow Laws.
I know some fine members here will call me a liar but the facts aren't that hard to find.
"A striking graphic from the Southern Poverty Law Center revealed that the majority of Confederate monuments weren't erected until after 1900 — decades after the Civil War ended in 1865. Notably, the construction of Confederate monuments peaked in the 1910s and 1920s, when states were enacting Jim Crow laws, and later in the 1950s and 1960s, amid the Civil Rights Movement":
