Someone won the Powerball lottery, over $700 million. That's the largest amount won by a single winner in North America.

Winners of millions don't usually live happily ever after.

I really wouldn't want to win it. Right now I lead a very peaceful existence. Can anyone possibly imagine what it would be like to have every Tom, Dick, and Harry trying to get you to give them money. To say nothing of being pestered by every organization for this, that, and every cause. No thanks. I live with few wants and have enough to get by comfortably. Too much money is a curse, not a blessing.

You are absolutely correct - I have a feeling that poor woman is about to have her life ruined.

Well, she could always share among us UHH members. A lot less misery for her, and just a little bit for each of us. I don't know about you, but I could tough it out for a couple million.

Seems everybody I've heard of who wins takes the lump sum payout. I wonder if anyone has opted for the 30 year payout.

It would be a pain in the ass to win that much. I would have to figure out responsible things to do with the money, probably set up a foundation to make grants for good causes. There's the worry about how to invest it so it wouldn't disappear. It would be a lot of work.
And if you have kids, you'd have to worry about some whacko kidnapping them for ransom.

Why I never buy lottery tickets.
