Don't know what camera you're using, but my 5D IV takes two cards so I have four 32 gb CF cards and six 32 gb SD cards, plus four special jobs and long trips I also have seven 16 gb SD cards and for my G15 I usually carry four 8 gb Sd cards. Of course it can also use the larger capacity cards. So I guess I am covered.

I take (hopefully) on any trip enough memory cards so that I do not have to reuse them until I am home and the images are on my main computer. I also download each day to my traveling LR catalog on my laptop + B/U to an external HD.

I ALREADY had 1 memory card become UNreadable due to some will of the gods of electronics mischief. So I lost half of my pictures of the Grand Canyon and the New Mexico hot air balloon festival. Gone forever! My friend said why would any one need more than the card that came with the camera, well wish I had backed up the pictures onto my laptop right away and I didn't, so they are gone for ever. Many times showing pics from the card on the camera's screen is big enough to get the idea across many times. SD cards are so cheap these days I wonder why not have enough to separate trips on partially filled cards. Single board computers almost always REQUIRE fast micro SD card 8gb or greater. Cell phones and tablets need micro sd cards too, so it is not one device. They can be used on a vast # of PC/MAC/Linux computers too. I Bought a lot of 5- 32gb Ultra micro sd cards from craigslist for $30 tried them on my tablet, there is an app to test mem cards too and the testing is relatively fast. Many people don't realize they are valuable to some of us but not everyone.
So if the price is right why not more than 1 or 2 cards? This ensures less loss of images you may not get a chance to get again.

I agree with the advice to split up your pics among several cards.

Another bit of advice: Do not keep your cards in your gadget bag with your camera. If you lose (or someone steals) your bag, at least you will have most of your memories.

All good advice. However if you are like me and shot some video also, you might need larger cards. I have two 128GB cards and use both. With my memory I don't see having more than this or I'll get confused on which card has what and did I really copy the files yet?

I agree Ricardo; Baby Bush would have said never put any eggs in a basket, like his famous quote, " fool me once and aaaaaaa .... " but like Ricardo, I would say never put ALL you Images in one SD card.

I use a 64mb and a few 32mb cards and have never filled one up yet. I also carry smaller ones in case I want to give someone else a photo. But then I have 4 batteries for each of two cameras also so I'm somewhat manic.
The 64mb card shooting in raw at full size (24meg) will hold 1759 shots and I've never came close to that many shots without a download.

My camera uses CF and CFast cards. I have a 64 and 128 GB CFast card. I use the 128 in the camera almost exclusively. I can get nearly 5,000 RAW files on that card. But I end up offloading it before I get to that many. I have a few 32GB CF cards but virtually never use them. I do carry spare cards in my bag, although I have never had a card fail. I have some 256MB cards from my origional Digital Rebel...but they only hold 9 or 10 RAW files each...LOL. My how times change...

I have a Sony pocket camera that shoots JPEG only. I can get way more than 50-80 images on a Lexar or SanDisk SD card. I trust these memory cards not to fail. I use a different SD card for each of my 3 cameras. SD cards are so inexpensive now. My Nikon DX DSLR shoots JPEG and RAW. And I do have spare SD cards in case any one of the three fails on me. So far that has not happened.

Yes, Innumber the cards and have a sheet with the numbers so that I can list the shoot for each memory card. I make my print lists on card stock and can put for sets on one sheet, which I then cut out. I keep a couple in each camera bag.
