Sorry, but that is not normal! In all the cameras I've owned in well over fourty years, I never had any slack in any of them!

Thanks, MT Shooter! I've been very happy with that lens, but never noticed looseness until yesterday.

May be it melted! Who knows.

When you tighten screws on a lens use a JIP screwdriver

My Nikon's have a slight amount of turn movement but no wobble at all.

You made me get up out of my comfortable chair and walk across the room! The 28-300mm on my D750 has a slight bit of wiggle room and so does the Tamron 18-200 on my A6000.

Oh, yeah? I went all the way from the kitchen to the living room to check the Tammy 11-16.
Totally snug with no wiggle at all. But I have to agree with MT about tolerances, especially with a wide angle like the 11-16, where a little wiggle will not throw the lens out of focus.

A slight looseness is absolutely normal. If the lens fit too tight it could jamb and not come off. Nothing to worry about at all. Camera mounts and lens mounts are made to a tolerance so the amount of slack will vary between lenses.

There is no slight looseness in any of the lenses I use on my Canon 80D.

Well, you have to understand that I'm exceptionally strong from all the mouse and keyboard work I do every day. Moving those lenses a bit was no problem for my powerful hands.

I shot the ellipse yesterday and noticed when I returned home the lens was loose in the mount. I've checked, and it is fully rotated and "locked". This is not normal is it? What is the fix? (I didn't notice any light leaks in the pics and didn't notice any loss of sharpness, but I was shooting at 11mm on a crop frame Nikon.) Thanks for the help.

Some slight rotational looseness isn't unusual and typically isn't a problem.

Just be sure it's not "flexing" side-to-side (i.e., the lens is "tilting" slightly). That most likely that would be due to loose screws in the lens' bayonet mount. It also could be loose screws in the camera's bayonet mount" (all your lenses would flex slightly on the camera, if this were the case). This could be a problem both for sharpness and because it might gradually loosen farther and eventually let the lens drop or strip out some of the screw threads. If this is happening, I'd recommend removing each of the screws one at a time, putting a tiny dab of blue Locktite on the threads, then reinstall the screw snugly. Besides the Locktite, you'll also need a precision screwdriver for this. Be careful not to over-tighten.

It would have helped if you had said how loose the lens was. As MTshooter said there is always a little play in the lens to camera fit, It's called (I think) working tolerance/clearance, it is in everything where one peice moves inside the other.
