Epson would love you to consume their inks and papers at this level, the cost of the ink alone would make the cost of the machine negligible, I have an Epson All in One, and produce a dozen colour prints and four x eighty page colour documents a month. This costs approximately $25.00 per month in ink. The printer is an Expression 760 which cost c.$175.
Machine $175
Ink $600 (Two ink cartridges per month - black and colour - for the past two years.)

My requirements for photo printing are simple 4x6 or 5x7 snapshots to share with family. Anything more than that goes to a printing company. I've used the Epson WP-4540 for 3-4 years and absolutely love it. It has never given me problems and Epson's ink is not expensive. I buy about 6-8 cartridges per year. If I needed a printer tomorrow, I'd buy another like this one.
I don't usually jump in but as far as Epson is concerned I have Epson P-600,(excellent quality prints) Epson XP-960(great for scanning and also smaller prints) and Epson NX-420( for quick copies and scanning)...recently buried Epson inkjet 2200, had it for 10 yrs was great but had to move on....
My point is if you spend $ on your favorite camera equiptment and not on your printers its like buying a Lexus and putting "mud flaps" over your tires and a pair of dice over your rear view mirror and running it over "hill and dale and mud ravines".
Still a "newbie"!

While I love my Epson stand alone photo scanner, I am less enamored of their printers. Maybe I just didn't print enough, but I always had problems with the jets clogging up and also with the machine not recognizing Epson's own brand color cartridges. Anymore I simply have printers print most of the prints I want. They seem to do a better job. I do have an all-in-one now, actually two, a Canon (which sees the most use but did malfunction recently, it jammed) and an older Brother unit which was given to me by my oldest son when he replaced the printer in his Law office but I haven't really used much.
I just recently purchased the Epson Work Force ET-4550. It has the large refillable ink tanks. I just printed over 600 5x7 color photo cards and used less than half the ink. I am very happy with the unit. I wish I had the money to buy the wide format version. The only glitch is that it does not take singe sheet loading and cannot handle canvas printing. This is my 4th printer from Epson in over 20 years. Had it now just 10 days but so far so good. Happy Printing
Epson printers are notorious for clogs, mine does too. But I like it. The only way to clean my 820's print head is to run the utility, no removable parts. Sometimes it takes several runs to get it clean.
You know guys, if you would just print a full color 3x5 print once or twice a week you wouldn't have that problem of clogging. Kind of like s.., you use it or you lose it.
That's the one... I figure with my 600 + 5x7s and about 30 8x10s I printed. That the Eco-Tank has just about paid for itself vs my old Epson and the #126 cartridges.

I got mine at Staples currently on sale for $399.00. Also, since I had an eight year old Epson printer (resale value = I will pay you to haul it away) They gave me $50.00 on a trade-in promotion they have going as part of the back-to-school sale and a few bucks for recycled ink cartridges.
Guess I should go back to school now??

I have used Epson printers since they were an 8 dot - dot matrix printer. The one we have now is a WF-3520 All-In-One and it has served us very well for over a year. The ink isn't cheap but since we leave it on 24/7 we don't have clogs or ink problems with Epson ink cartridges. This one was turned on a year ago and is connected to the WiFi. We can Scan and Print from our laptops and do multi page scans-to-pdf and back-and-front page printing. The photos are actually quite good when I use photo paper. I also use it to scan old photos and it does a very nice job.
It's not a commercial photo printer but that speaks mostly to speed, not quality.
