I was just kidding, the park is magical.
I have my lifetime pass. I can't wait till the Aspens start to turn. It is nice being retired I can get up there during the week. I have two cameras, my full frame will have my 24-105 L for the scenery. The other is a 1.3 crop, I have a 300 mm L, I like for wildlife. You just never know what you will see.
Keep on showing up, and keep on taking these amazing pictures.

Good Morning RFGWAC! Of course, I knew you were kidding. I just like the banter. Like you I'm retired and have my Senior Lifetime Pass. I wish I could get to Rocky more often, but it is a bit of a trek from south Florida. My two cameras are both full frame (Nikon d800 & d810) with one being married to my 24-70 lens and the other to my 200-400 lens. As you said you never know what you will see. Rocky is my favorite place to photograph as I've hiked every marked trail and slept in every named backcountry site in the park. I have such wonderful memories (and photos). Never fear, I will continue coming home to Rocky.

Happy shooting. Hope you post some aspen photos. I think shooting above Bear Lake and through the trees on the Flattop Mountain trail as it over looks the lake would be a great view.

I went up very early AM to this spot and looked for a photo opportunity. I came away empty thinking that Bear Lake was not a very photogenic place for a photo. I can see that I was very wrong. Great job!

Good Morning Shootist. Well, you were at the right place----maybe the wrong time of day, and maybe the wrong angle. I think Bear Lake is better in the evening as the great slope of Long's Peak catches the western light of the setting sun. This shot was taken from roughly the north side of the lake 9I think in the area of information post #9 or #10. Anyway, you can't miss the big rock and there is a bench on the trail by this location. While you CAN get sunrise photos from this location, you just get the glow on the tips so it is more muted. Better sunrise shots at Bear Lake are shooting toward Hallet peak from the first pat of the trail because the peaks of the divide catch the morning light.

Better sunrise photos can be had if you take the short walk to Nymph Lake (about a 1/2 mile) and shoot from the right hand side of the lake. Better yet, take the slightly longer hike to Dream Lake for the Best Shot OF All. At Dream, shoot from the left side of the lake runoff stream. You will get your feet a bit wet, but it is worth it to get the shot.

Don't give up on Bear. It can be magical.

Wishing you Good Light.

Larry

My hiking days are long gone. My years as a pipefitter have caught up with me. Coupled with a Motorcycle accident years ago, that put me in a wheelchair for a year, has slowed me down.
Bad knees and a worse back, limit me. But, I am not complaining. Everyday I wake up alive is a good one.
I may not get as far into the park as I did when I was a kid, but that's okay. I can still get some amazing shots. I am old, so are my cameras. A Canon 1Ds, a 1D, both the Mark III's. Would not trade either of them for a newer model.
Next time you are in the area, let me know. We could at least swap some lies and have a beer.

Absolutely beautiful photo: great capture of light. Sharp. Composition is well done!! Reminds me so much of my favorite color photographer's, Galen Rowell, work. Looking forward to other work of yours.
