On the Delaware shore, woke up early and decided to make sure everything is working as it is supposed to. I looked at the image of the sun and thought I had dirt on the sensor, but, when I checked a live stream of the sun, they really are sun spots! (Thank you Thousand Oaks Optical) I did discover something very important...the important words of the day are SPF and HYDRATE! I hope everybody enjoys the eclipse today...be safe and have fun!
They came out well, especially considering you hadn't even intended to photograph them.
Great picture of the sun and spots. It looks like a heavy crop from the original D7200 DX frame I estimate you will get an image of the eclipse that is only approx 2.7mm in diameter with the 300mm lens. Good luck.
Your first shot's sky is so beautiful with the sun spots. Could be used as a replacement sky enhancing many a photographs.

Thanks all for the comments - it was indeed heavily cropped but I'm pleased with the overall result - not NASA, but it will do :)
