Jerry...I wondered the same thing when I first heard of the Titmouse. According to the 'Birds of Alabama Field Guide' it says, ""The prefix
"Tit" comes from the Scandinavian word meaning "little." Suffix "mouse" is derived from the Old English word "muse", meaning "bird.""
"Simply translated, it is a "small bird.""
