Rice paddy's are situated all over the Island of Bali, but in the highlands of central Bali near the village of Ubud they are truly beautiful, for the next 4 days the Hindu's are having ceremonies in a very old temple for the rice, they have been doing this for 100's of years....In the country villages families live in compounds & each compound has a allotment in the rice field which they harvest 3 times a year...theres no government hand outs & you do not see homeless people, makes me wonder sometimes where us smart western people have gone wrong...
Wow! Great scenes. No jeans and T-shorts? : )
Its great to see pride taken in dressing, both men & women always look so beautiful...

I wonder too, I suspect it is something to do with avarice. Interesting set of pics, thanks.

Nice series of images on a topic.
We reward people for not working and call it welfare. Able bodied people grow up in this type of society and realize that in their culture it is how they were trained. It may be politically incorrect to ask them to work for the hand out, but they also vote. Democracies fail when those who vote for a living outnumber those who work for a living. While there are those who are truely in need, there are too many who can work and chose not to. IF the government gives money, it should require those who are able to work for that money.

Bali is certainly beautiful, and you have shown us so through your excellent photos. Thank you for sharing.
Very well done including the snail. Brings back memories of a time in a country not far from there.
It also lets you reflect on cities like Singapore where there are no homeless folk because the government wont provide for those who do not contribute.
Not a bad idea. The dole as Brenda Brit above knows only too well. If you allow people to learn to survive on a dole then they will insist on making the dole stay up to the cost of living.
The beauty is in the designs and use of every inch of land. Three harvests a year and a 12 months career in the paddy's must be working for those folk.
Way to go
