Yesterday I posted about wanting to do head shots (http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-480114-1.html). Today I got my first subject that was not a family member.

I prefer the last one; I like the contrast of the darker blue with her hair and skin. It is more flattering; she seems to fade into the background with the lighter top. Good work. Matt

Your lighting is spot on. I prefer 1&4. She looks natural. In headshots lighting is important and you nailed it. To me, it's obvious you told her to smile in 2&3 and she has a much more natural smile in 1&4, because her eyes are smiling. How long did you speak with her before she got in the light? Did you let her know what to expect, get her nice and relaxed? Now that you have the lighting down, remember to try to draw the personality out and capture it. Practice. You got this!

Nice. I think the first and last one are the best. 2 & 3 look like the smile is forced and not natural....Rich

She is a local actress in the town where I live, I’m friends with her bother-in-law (we’re in the same camera club). I met her for the first time about 5 minutes before we started shooting. I think we were both a little nervous, but things relaxed a little as we went forward. The good news is, she wants to do an outdoor shoot.
