Linda has explained the basic error. Picasa can't display Word files. Good luck, you are have entered the morass of Microsoft and trying to get it to work with non-Microsoft programs. Good luck again, I have spent many hours learning that Microsoft is Microsoft and the rest of the world is not Microsoft and they definitely do not play well together. When I think of Microsoft, the comment on my 2nd grade report card: "Does not play well with others" comes to mind!

You have over-simplified - Word handles text and image objects separately; Picassa knows nothing about Word, and knows that it knows nothing. If you gave me a Chinese-language math paper in which equations were presented using words, I could do nothing with it. Same thing here.
