Concerning statues.

For some reason I am thinking about statues and how other countries deal with statues from their past. Egypt-has many statues and monuments of monarchs who conquered other countries and enslaved and murdered tens of thousands fo thousands of years. These are revered and remembered as symbols of Egypts past. Italy has many statues and monuments of the most viscious leaders. They enslaved and tortured thousand for thousands of years. Not only have they been preserved they are revered as memories of the past. Japan. Many monuments of Japans past samauri leaders who also killed those who crossed their paths, they too are valued as past memories. France. Tere are still statues and monuments of Napolean, another conquerer who murdered and enslaved many, he was overthrown and exiled, But those statues ans still preserved as French history.. There ane many other countries that heve preserved memories of their history. But somehow many people in this country do not want to preserve memories-no matter how they might have held a different view. some do not want to remember the past. It offends them that past figures did some unpleasant things and they want to forget them. In the 19'th and 20'th centuries for some reason we are trying to forget our history. This kind of thing is actually quite dangerous. Some of these things needs to be remembered.
Statues and particularly these are not history. Most were put up in the 20's and then another spurt in the 60's. They were pretty much a dog whistle to those fighting for equal rights that the establishment was going to fight them.
History belongs in books and museums, two things that very few people use anymore but should.
I'm sure that Great Britain teaches the American Revolution in schools but I doubt you'll find any statues of George Washington in London.
There aren't any statues of Hitler or other Nazi leaders in Germany.

Yes. But Britain has many statues of past kings or queens or knights who weren't such nice people. They enslaved and/or murdered many for trivial reasons. Perhaps we shouldn't have statues of Hitler, Stalin or Musilini, but they were not Americans. All the civil war statues of confederate leaders were Americans, and must be remembered, lest we forget. There are "fraidy cats" who are afraid of our past. They are the ones who go trophys when they lost. Israel has museums of the atrocities of WW2with the slogan NEVER FORGET. It's appropriate fot the statues of confederate soldiers. Someone here suggested a museum where many of the statues that are to be taken down might be placed. Not a bad idea.

I'm pretty sure accompanying each statue with a placard denigrating it would stir up more white supremacists than just removing them.
We could of course compromise and put all the Confederate leader statues in the Hall of Traitors. That might work.

As I recall Britain waged a war against traitors, we call them Founding Fathers.

Britain lost... if they had won, our founding fathers would be hanging from the rafters.

Based on your comments, the American Flag and all the monuments in D.C. should be safely stored away in a museum. That way, anyone who does not want to see them or is offended by them, does not have to visit the museum.

I never said that. The American Flag is the current flag of our Country. However putting the Confederate Flag which most people have never seen and the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia which can be seen flying at White Supremacist Rally's should be in museums. I'm not sure why you would misinterpret my post so drastically. I'll have to ride in a lower grade point level for you.
Have a nice day.

Most any historical monuments or statues representing historical figures could be offensive to practically anyone. For example, some Japanese living in the US could be offended by the WWII memorials around the US because they represent, to them, death of relatives by the American Imperialists. Because they are offended, should these symbols be removed from public viewing and placed in museums?
Let's tear down everything that reminds us of anything older that last week! Oh, wait a minute, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." George Santayana

It just dawned on me Frank. You call all Confederate solders traitors because they fought against the government. Now you want to nullify the election, attack the President no matter what he says or does and overthrow the Constitution, at least the parts with which you disagree. It seems as though you are fighting against the government.
Your stand seems hypocritical. Would you please explain?

Or placards reminding people just who they were, for instance:
Confederate President Jefferson Davis, Democrat

Just typical Liberal confusion and hypocracy.
