Last week there was a post about the Vikings, which stirred my fascination for their antiquity. I mentioned in response to that post, I had visited the Oslo museum in 2015.
Their Maritime history is well documented & presented proudly in this museum. Among the many stories of the Norwegian maritime history, Their Vikings were the most innovative & adventurous. Many countries have had a Viking influence in their origins, mainly thanks to their ship building & Sailing prowess.
I took many photo's in the museum & offer to share them in the Dropbox folder attached. I have reduced them from the originals for capacity reasons but are available at full res if interested.

Seeing pictures of these ancient Viking ships was a treat. I have stood on the spot where it is believed Vikings made their first landing in Newfoundland but I will never get to Oslo. Thank you for this post.

Great photos. Thanks for sharing. From what I've read and seen on TV documentaries, the Vikings played a major role in the ancient history of what is now the UK.

Oh yes, The Vikings were a major influence in much of the UK and North America history. I remember learning about Eric the Red in my history classes. As the DNA is beginning to reveal, many of those who immigrated here from the UK have some of the Viking blood in their veins. Does anyone in your family have red hair, perhaps blue eyes, pale white skin, you could be related...

Thank you for sharing, the photos are great as I am not sure I will ever be able to witness this first hand.

My mother was of Scottish parentage, I've traced that DNA line back to the 1600s, in building the family tree.
My father was born in England to A Pom mother & Latvian father. Records are few from the Baltics.
My skin is freckley & sensitive to sun damage, my hair used to be coppery until it started waving. Goodbye that is.
So if I had my DNA tested, I'd bet it pointed to Northern Europe or Scotland/ Norwegian region.

My Maternal Grandfather was born in Oslo. My DNA testing came back mostly Scandinavian & Western European with some Irish... I'm awaiting the return of the History Channel's series " Vikings" due back in late November.... Stunning landscapes. Nice captures from the Museum...

King Harald Halvdansson (Fairhair") is my 30th grandfather. I visited the Viking Museum in Oslo two years ago and also traveled north to Lunner, Norway where I visited the family farm that my great-great grandfather left to come to America in 1868...the farm is sill in the family and I met 2nd cousins....a very cool experience!

Did you get to visit the Fram display. The Fram was the Norwegian ship that did both the North and South Pole discoveries.

Thank you for the reply. I have done some family tree work also. My mother was a O'Brien, her mother was a Morgan, the first Morgan (in my family) to come to North America came to Dover NH, most likely landing in Portsmouth NH. Beyond that I cannot find any links. On my father's side his mother came from Prince Edward Island she is of French heritage and her family came to North America in Nova Scotia as a assistant governor in Halifax. As we all know the British invaded the Island and drove out all of the residents. That is an entirely different story ... So many of us have some form of heritage with the Vikings...Mine being with the Morgan's...

Yes I did, A fascinating display. No expense is spared to present their history. As sea faring people they wre certainly up there with early world adventurers/ Explorers.
Their Maritime history is some thing the Norwegians are immensely proud of.

My pic's of the other stories of discovery, including the FRAM, will be posted shortly on a Dropbox link. Watch this space.
