Don,
My mom and dad grew up on 56th street, between 1st and 2nd avenues, in the 30s-40s. I had lots of cousins on the block, and spent a lot of time there growing up (I'm now 65.)
It is amazing how the block changed from walk ups to hi rise luxury buildings. Lots of history on those streets for me.
