D500 won't let me bracket. Help!

I need a little help. My D500 won't let me bracket when I press the BKT button and rotate the Main Control dial. I don't want to do a two-button reset.

Have you checked your bracketing settings in the Shooting Menu?

Yes, I tried all 5 modes: AE & Flash, AE only, Flash only, WB bracketing, ADL bracketing. While holding the Bkt button and rotating the main command dial. All to no avail.

Try manual. Real photographers learn how to shoot manually :-)

Manually bracket during the totality phase of the eclipse?

The brightness varies at least 5 stops from the outer to the inner corona during totality. 1/2 sec to 1/1000 sec. Also, it will be dark.

I just took out my D500 to try it out. I went to Photo Shooting Menu, then Auto Bracketing Set, and selected AE only. The main command dial is used to set the number of shots. The sub command dial is used to set the exposure increment. It worked. When I set for 3 exposures, it gave me one normally exposed, one underexposed, and one overexposed image.

...and hold down the little Bkt button on the side of the pentaprism in doing this. I did, and have done that before but it doesn't work! I'm afraid I will have to do a two-button reset and lose all my settings. Dang!

I tried to reset my camera 5 times and it didn't work. It wiped out some of my preferences each time but not all. Finally SUCCESS. After the 6th reset attempt my Auto Bracket came back while some of my old preferences were still there!? Maybe I should have updated the firmware before, but I'm afraid to do it now lest I lose my Auto Bracket again. My problem was not mentioned in the bugs.

Odd that it took six resets. It's good you kept at it.

I always save my settings prior to doing a reset.

I wrote mine down thinking maybe one of my settings was the cause of the problem.
