Minolta XK

I just got a Minolta XK along with a whole bunch of cameras. The XK has the AE viewfinder and I found indoor it's impossible to see the shutter speed scale on the right hand side of the viewfinder. I am wondering if it is normal?

I have the same camera stored away. I'll check it out later.

I would try manipulating it slowly around your eyes until you can see it. Do you wear glasses? That may push your eyes away from the viewfinder.

I can see it but very dark even in daylight. With a flashlight shinning on the littele window on top I can see well

If I remember, and perhaps you can help me as it has been years, is there a white plastic piece on either the top left or right side of the outside viewfinder. It may be 1/8" x 3/4". That is what lets in the illumination. If you look in the viewfinder at an angle instead of straight through you miss either the left or right side. The Minolta XE series had the same issue because the eyepiece is so small.

First I do know that the viewfinder has very high magnification and the eyepiece is small plus the fact that the scale is outside of the image area so it's difficult to see unless looking at an angle. However, the scale is very dark and yes there is a plastic piece on top of the prism and it's clear. If I shine the flashlight there I can see the scale very well. In daylight I could barely see the scale, it's very dim. In door it's dark. I guess the silver on the "light pipe" went bad and needs a lot of light to illuminate the scale sufficiently.

It's very possible.

Hi... inside the v/f there is a mirrored strip that redirects the incoming light to the meter. If you are good at getting things back together, you can open it up and glue a piece of metalized Mylar over the detiereorated mirror. The tricky part is getting the dial parts together so the pointer is aimed right. When disassembling, be very careful of orientation of the parts.
